These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Narrato (ABN 72 534 144 982) ("Narrato", "we", "us"), a registered Australian business. They cover the Narrato website, the Narrato macOS app, the free trial, paid licenses, app updates, feedback channels, and support.
By downloading, installing, or using Narrato, or by purchasing a license, you agree to these Terms.
Eligibility and acceptable use
You must be at least 16 years old to use Narrato. You may use Narrato for lawful personal and work purposes. You agree not to misuse the website or app, interfere with their operation, attack or abuse the licensing, update, or feedback systems, or use Narrato in connection with unlawful activity.
Beta software
Narrato is currently sold as a paid beta. Features, compatibility, pricing for new customers, diagnostics, update behavior, and availability may change as the product evolves. Beta builds may contain bugs and incomplete features.
Known requirements and limitations, disclosed before you buy:
- Narrato requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later.
- Speech models are downloaded during setup (a multi-gigabyte download), so setup requires an internet connection and disk space.
- After setup, core dictation and read-aloud work offline. An internet connection is needed for license activation, refund-related license checks, and app updates.
Free trial
Narrato includes a 7-day free trial that starts on the app's first successful launch on your Mac. No payment details are required for the trial. When the trial ends, core tools are locked until a license is purchased and activated. Attempting to extend the trial by manipulating the system clock or trial state may end the trial early.
Your license
When you buy Narrato, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the app on up to 2 Macs that you own or control. Your purchase includes all beta updates and all 1.x updates. Future major versions may be offered as a separate purchase.
You can move the license to a different Mac by deactivating it on one machine (in the app's settings) and activating it on another.
The license is for you as an individual. It does not permit sharing your license key, or making the app available to others as a service.
Restrictions
You must not:
- share, resell, or publish license keys;
- bypass, disable, or interfere with the trial, licensing, or update mechanisms;
- redistribute modified builds of Narrato, or distribute any build in a way that misleads people about its source or integrity;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except to the extent permitted by applicable law;
- use the update, feedback, or licensing services in an abusive way (for example, flooding them with automated requests).
Purchases, pricing, and taxes
Purchases are processed by Polar as merchant of record. The price, any applicable taxes, and the total amount are shown at checkout before you pay, and Polar issues your receipt. The checkout transaction is also subject to Polar's terms and privacy policy.
Refunds
We offer a 14-day refund: if you are not happy with Narrato, contact us at josh@wilsonbros.dev (or via Polar) within 14 days of purchase and we will refund your order. When an order is refunded, the associated license is revoked and the app returns to an unlicensed state.
This refund policy is voluntary and applies in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law and any other consumer laws that apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits those rights.
Updates
The app uses Sparkle to check for updates and tells you when one is available; updates install only with your action. We recommend staying up to date, as beta fixes ship frequently.
Your content and responsibility
Narrato processes your audio and text locally on your Mac, and your content remains yours. Speech recognition and speech synthesis can make mistakes, so review outputs before relying on them. Do not use Narrato as the sole system for legal, medical, financial, safety-critical, or emergency decisions.
Backups, data, and beta risk
Narrato is a voice tool — not a backup, storage, or system-of-record service. It does not save or retain the documents you dictate into or read from: your work lives in the apps you use Narrato with, and any dictation history or clipboard history inside Narrato is a local convenience cache, not a durable store of your data. You are responsible for saving and backing up your own work.
Because Narrato is beta software that types into and interacts with other apps, we strongly recommend saving your work frequently and keeping independent backups of anything important. Subject to the consumer guarantees described below, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for lost, deleted, or corrupted data, files, or work, or for content that is not captured, inserted, or synthesized the way you intended. Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot be limited by law.
Feedback
If you send a bug report, feature request, diagnostic summary, log, attachment, or support email, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to use that material to respond to you, debug, and improve Narrato. Do not send material you do not have the right to share.
Third-party services and models
Narrato relies on third-party services described in our Privacy Policy (for example Polar for checkout and Hugging Face for model downloads). Speech models downloaded during setup are published by third parties and remain subject to their own licenses. Third-party services operate under their own terms.
Intellectual property
The Narrato app, brand, website design, and distributed materials are owned by Narrato or its licensors. Apart from the license granted above, these Terms do not transfer any intellectual property rights to you.
Consumer guarantees
Our software comes with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, and consumers in other jurisdictions may have similar non-excludable rights. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Disclaimer
Subject to the consumer guarantees above, Narrato is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without other warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every workflow.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss or corruption of data, files, or work, or loss of use, arising out of or relating to Narrato; and our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Narrato is limited to the amount you paid for your license. Where liability under a non-excludable consumer guarantee can lawfully be limited, we limit it to re-supplying the software or paying the cost of re-supply. Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
We may suspend or revoke your license if you materially breach these Terms (for example, key sharing or bypassing the licensing system) and, where the breach can be fixed, you fail to fix it within a reasonable time after we notify you. You may stop using Narrato at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive (including licenses you granted us over feedback, intellectual property, disclaimers, and liability limits) survive termination. Your statutory rights are unaffected.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product evolves. The "Last updated" date reflects the current version, and material changes will be announced on the website or in the app. Changes apply from when they are posted and do not retroactively remove entitlements you purchased (such as your license scope or included updates). If a change materially reduces what you paid for, contact us and we will work out a fair remedy.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia, and disputes are subject to the courts of Western Australia — except that if the consumer protection laws of your place of residence give you mandatory rights or a right to bring proceedings locally, those rights are unaffected.
